Mountain Bike the Tetons Names its First Executive Director

Press Release Heffner 05.2014v.4The Board of Directors of Mountain Bike the Tetons (MBT)is pleased to announce the appointment of Lin Heffner to the position of Executive Director, effective 28 May 2014. Lin brings to MBT a wealth of experience in the not-forprofit world, supplemented with an educational background that includes a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational and Industrial Psychology, followed by an MBA. “We are thrilled to have someone of Lin’s caliber help us lead MBT to the forefront of mountain biking and trails management in the Tetons,” noted Search Committee co-chairs Lynne Wolfe and Mike Lien.

Early in her career, Lin focused on her interest in marketing, with engagements at Vail/Beaver Creek Ski Resorts and Amazon.com. Her next position was with Cray Inc. Super Computers, developing processes forresolving issues between the company and vendors in Asia Pacific Sales and Marketing. From there, Lin joined Microsoft Corporation’s Global Marketing unit where she facilitated research focus groups, advised for technical community activities, and developed a worldwide event execution guide for enhancing ongoing user group community activities.

Her work at Microsoft led to her first professional involvement in the nonprofit world, beginning with an assignment as a consultant to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s AIDS Prevention Initiative in New Delhi, India. After three years in India, she returned to Seattle to join the Gates Foundation’s Global Health division as an Associate Program Officer responsible for management of a portfolio of grants within the Infectious Disease investment program.

Ready for a break from the Northwest and her busy corporate life, Lin recently sought out the perfect mountain-town lifestyle and ultimately settled on the Teton region for the next phase of her life and work. A long-time trails enthusiast, Lin has logged miles on her mountain bike in most of the Western US, as well as in India, where she participated in mountain biking events in the Himalayas. Lin is also an avid backcountry skier.

In addition to her professional and personal accomplishments, Lin is a certified Wilderness First Responder, a long-time IMBA Member, and has served on Passages Northwest’s Board of Directors. She also volunteered with the National Outdoor Leadership School as treasurer of a fundraising event.
