JacksonHoleLive to bring musical melange this summer

A summer of free live music is set for the base of Snow King Mountain with a mix of rock, country, funk and soul.

JacksonHoleLive’s five-show series kicks off with bluesy singer-songwriter Anders Osborne on June 22 as part of the Jackson Hole Mountain Games. Jackson rockers Black Mother Jones will open.

The run continues with a July 3 concert with two headliners, the folk pop rock band Johnnyswim and world roots group Playing For Change.

To coincide with the Teton County Fair the series will feature a country music concert this year on July 25. Critically acclaimed crooner Craig Campbell will play after bluegrass rockers the Black Lillies.

On Aug. 13, JacksonHoleLive will bring the funk/rock/jazz/hip-hop band Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue to Snow King. Funk band Sneaky Pete and the Secret Weapons will open.

The last show in the series is yet to be announced.

“We have some exceptional acts hitting our stage this summer,” JacksonHoleLive co-founder Shannon McCormick said in a statement.

“It’s going to be another fantastic summer of music,” McCormick said.

The series decided not to have a concert on the Fourth of July after taxing public resources last year with a screening of the Grand Teton Music Festival’s Music in the Hole and performances by Old Crow Medicine Show and the Young Dubs, co-founder Jeff Potter said.

“The overwhelming success of last year’s event was a little bit of a cause for concern to the department heads with the town,” he said, “primarily in respect to them being able to manage a crowd of that size in the event of an emergency.”

A concert on July 3 works well this year to start an extended holiday weekend, Potter said.

“Really the only difference from our standpoint is there won’t be fireworks after the concert,” he said.

The series is a fundraiser for Center Management Inc., the nonprofit operator of the Snow King Sports and Events Center. The series supports the center’s mission to maintain affordable ice rates and program fees for youth hockey and figure skating.

“Proceeds from last year’s series helped launch a new Learn to Skate program that saw more than 130 participants this past winter, ages 3 to 13,” Potter said.

JacksonHoleLive is sponsored by Snake River Brewing, the town of Jackson and more than 20 other supporters.

Donations are encouraged at the concerts, Potter said.

“If everyone donates a few dollars each time they come, we’ll be able to continue to bring great music to our town year after year,” he said.

Each show in the all-ages series starts at 5:30 p.m. The concerts typically last until about 9:45 p.m.

Food will be sold inside the park by Cafe Genevieve, Pinky G’s, the Indian, Hayden’s Post, Kim’s Corner, Everest Momo Shack and others. Snake River Brewing will sell beer.
